MISS DIETRICH REGRETS

Miss Dietrich Regrets was written by South African born playwright Gail Louw and explores the relationship between the legend that was Marlene Dietrich and her daughter Maria Riva, exposing the maladies and marvels of celebrity, fame and mother/daughter relationships.

Myths were created around movie stars in the early Hollywood days to enhance and increase allure and mystery, Marlene said she was not a myth but a ‘legend’ and the play interrogates just what that is. The title is intriguing and suggests the many layers the work investigates in terms of Marlene’s life and all that embraced. There are many women who juggle careers and motherhood who experience conflict and some guilt – add a dash of celebrity, an ‘impossible’ personality, a dedicated creator of her own legend into the mix and sparks are bound to fly and make for compelling drama and interesting theatre.

Fiona Ramsay returns to the Auto & General Theatre on the Square to play the role of the iconic Marlene Dietrich. Janna Ramos-Violante makes her debut at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square playing the role of Maria, Marlene’s daughter. This marks the first of three productions Fiona and Janna are in at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square this year.

Award winning director, Sylvaine Strike will add her magical touch to this new piece that is currently running in London. Denis Hutchinson will be doing the stage and lighting design and Margo Fleisch will be dressing the ladies.
