KIEVITS KROON

It was with great anticipation that my wife and I travelled north east of Johannesburg – on the road to Cullinan – to Kievits Kroon for a weekend of pampering; an afternoon luxuriating in their spa with a full body massage, access to their numerous thermae facilities, a seven course wine pairing dinner at the Granita restaurant, and a delicious buffet breakfast. Oh, what indulgence.

We were not disappointed …

Designed in a Cape Dutch thatched architectural style, Kievits Kroon has all the facilities for a stress-free weekend – and picnic, conference and wedding facilities too – all set in beautifully landscaped gardens, meandering paths and bird life aplenty. We even found wandering buck.

Accommodation is varied, from hotel-style luxury rooms to free-standing cottages, all with top quality finishes; comfort and luxury with charm, and for today’s busy executive, wireless internet.

The spa facilities are extensive, with numerous ‘treatments’ available; body scrubs, full body, head, foot and scalp massages, and jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms and heated indoor pools.

Their Granita restaurant is where they host their seven-course wine-pairing dinners, and their wine cellar is Diners Club Diamond award-winning. Their staff are both knowledgeable and attentive, and appear to have perpetual smiles. What a treat.

On the menu for that wine-pairing dinner were;

a basil goat’s cheese and melon Amuse Bouche,
a starter of roasted quail – with Kievits Kroon Sauvignon Blanc 2013,
seared scallops and poached prawns – with Hartenberg Riesling 2102,
beetroot and pineapple granita,
duo of lamb rack and springbok loin – with Beyerskloof Pinotage 2014,
frozen tiramisu – with Jordan Mellifera Natural Sweet 2102,
coffee and Friandises

Outside, there is a lap and a jacuzzi pool, bar and snack facilities, and areas to have picnics under their verdant trees.

In addition, the walls of the executive suites, Granita restaurant and 41 Library are adorned with artworks by the children from the Leeufontein Primary who have participated in the Kievits Kroon Ithuta Art Project, an invaluable initiative in support of the less advantaged local communities.

Further, to show their commitment to the preservation of the environment, they have launched a number of ‘green’ initiatives; bottling drinking water, a vermiculture project, waste separation as well as energy and water saving operations, resulting in the them being named in the Best Water Management category of the 2012 Imvelo Responsible Tourism Awards.

So, if you’re looking for a pampered weekend – or just a day out – and only a hour’s drive from Sandton, we suggest you make the time … it’s worth every moment. We will be returning.
