Joys of Sharing directed by Gregory Maqoma will explode on to the stage at the beautiful Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg on 21 and 22 October 2016, where a live DVD recording will also take place.
In Joys of Sharing, music and dance will again be inseparable lovers as Maqoma, Grammy-winning flautist Wouter Kellerman, beloved Afro-soul diva Simphiwe Dana and the Vuyani dancers come together to craft an unforgettable evening’s entertainment. Maqoma, the executive creative director of Vuyani Dance Theatre, is no stranger to potent collaborations.
The show will feature new, original material and an innovative choreography that will see the artists seamlessly intertwined with the Vuyani dancers as they bring the music to life in a memorable live spectacular.
It’s poised to be a dream meeting of three of South Africa’s leading creative minds, who will collaborate to conjure “a precious moment of sharing, giving rise to a reciprocal flow of friendship and affinity” between the intimately related disciplines of dance and music, as Maqoma describes it.
Says Maqoma: “From me, as the director of the show, it is amazing to be working with these world-acclaimed songwriters, musicians and performers who continue to win international awards and wow audiences around the world with their sold-out performances.
“This historic show is also the first time that Simphiwe and Wouter will be collaborating. It continues the tradition of Vuyani, which has become known for its world-class collaborations and for celebrating South African talent.”
Over the years this globally acclaimed dancer, choreographer and director Maqoma has gained a reputation for weaving magical tapestries of contemporary dance, live music and visual sumptuousness, drawing on gifted local composers and musicians to give voice to his creative vision.
