Afro-Jazz icon Ray Phiri debuts at the Kaya FM Live @ The Bassline stage in a very special one night only performance with the surprise guests performing alongside the legend. Bassline will be the backdrop of legends meeting with future legends.

Ray’s extraordinary catalogue of songs stretches back almost 50 years, coincides with Bassline’s 22nd birthday celebration as the number one music venue of choice for all artists and fans. To celebrate Bassline’s 22nd birthday and Heritage Month, Ray is asking Kaya FM listeners to choose a set-list of 22 songs.

The globally renowned composer, singer and guitarist will be reflecting on the past 22 years of democracy in South Africa through his songs. Each selected song will need to sit within or represent a chosen epoch, this will allow fans to take control of the show and interact with the legend himself!

Ray Phiri will perform songs from Afro-fusion band Stimela where he was the founder and lead vocalist, the Grammy award winning Graceland album and his solo songbook, the show itself will then be structured into four segments each reflecting five year epochs beginning in 1994.

Rounding off the rare musical feast will be newcomers Thee Legacy, an exciting acapella unit formed with of the grandsons of the legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Having performed at major festivals such as the Africa Day Concert Thee Legacy will no doubt bring for an eclectic mix of musical alchemy!

The show will be taking place on the 10th September 2016 and streamed live (via Skyroom Live) and recorded later for pay per view.
